The Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued six Nigerian Law School students who were abducted while traveling from Anambra to Adamawa on July 26.
In a press statement released in Makurdi, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Edet Udeme confirmed that the students-belonging to the Yola Campus-were freed on Friday morning and safely reunited with their families the same day.
According to police reports, the abduction occurred along the Joota/Wukari Federal Highway, a route that has become increasingly volatile in recent months.
The victims were located and rescued at High Tension Road in Wukari, Taraba State following coordinated efforts between police divisions.
“The students were rescued and taken to Ukum Divisional Police Headquarters before their release to family members,” Udeme stated.
Authorities have not disclosed details about the identity or apprehension of the kidnappers, but investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
The rescue brings relief to the legal education community and heightens calls for increased security on Nigeria’s inter-state highways.
