63rd Miss International: Anambra’s Ekwebenam Crowned Nigerian Winner

The grand finale, held on Sunday, saw Ekwebenam rise above a competitive field of contestants to claim the national title. Miss Lagos was named first runner-up, while Miss Bauchi, Miss Edo, Miss Cross River, and Miss Nasarawa completed the top five placements.

Ekwebenam’s victory continues Nigeria’s consistent presence at Miss International, one of the world’s “Big Four” beauty competitions, which emphasizes not only elegance and poise but also cultural diplomacy and global advocacy. She follows in the footsteps of Perpetual Ukadike, who represented Nigeria at the 2024 edition of the global contest.

As the newly crowned queen, Ekwebenam is expected to champion initiatives that celebrate Nigeria’s rich heritage and promote goodwill on the international stage. Her win also underscores the growing influence of Anambra State in the national pageant circuit.

In a remarkable twist, Anambra secured a second major title this season. Onyinyechi Basil, also representing the state, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 in a separate contest held in Lagos.

Basil edged out Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, in a dramatic finale, with Miss Bayelsa and Miss Ogun placing as second and third runners-up respectively.

The dual triumph has positioned Anambra as a powerhouse in Nigerian pageantry, with both Ekwebenam and Basil set to represent the country at Miss International and Miss Universe later this year. Industry observers have hailed the feat as unprecedented, sparking excitement among pageant fans and cultural advocates alike.

With preparations underway for their global appearances, all eyes are now on how these two queens will showcase Nigeria’s beauty, resilience, and cultural depth on the world stage.
