Petrol Attendant Arraigned Over Alleged ₦1.78 Million Theft in Badagry

A 34-year-old petrol attendant, Alaba Samson, was arraigned on Thursday before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of theft amounting to ₦1.78 million.

Samson, whose residential address remains undisclosed, is facing charges of felony and theft. He pleaded not guilty to the accusations.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Edet Ekpo, the alleged offences occurred between August 1 and August 2 at Jamfad Filling Station, located in Torikoh along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Ekpo told the court that Samson conspired with others to steal a total of ₦1,781,500 from the station, property belonging to the complainant, Mr. Falade James.

“The defendants stole ₦1,781,500 on two different occasions at the filling station, property of one Falade James, the complainant. He was arrested in his home and handed over to the Police for prosecution,” Ekpo stated.

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Presiding over the matter, Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in like sum. He specified that one of the sureties must be self-employed.

The case was adjourned until September 24 for mention.
