In a dramatic show of resilience, youths from Bigwa village in Mbayenge, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State successfully repelled a midnight attack by suspected bandits on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
The assailants reportedly stormed the village around 2 a.m., but were met with fierce resistance from local youths who quickly mobilized to defend their community.
During the confrontation, one of the attackers was subdued and captured, while the rest fled with injuries sustained in the clash.
Several villagers were also injured in the skirmish, highlighting the risks faced by communities in conflict-prone regions.
The captured suspect has since been handed over to security agencies for further investigation.
Community leaders have commended the bravery of the youths, but are urging the government and security forces to bolster protection in the area to prevent future attacks.
