Zomo, who had previously evaded arrest, was captured during a clearance operation in Doka forest after attempting to attack officers with a knife. He was subdued and taken into custody.
Following his arrest, police raided the gang’s hideout in Alagye village, recovering a cache of weapons and other items, including:

The suspects – Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde (alias “Okocha”) – were linked to the abduction of Blessing John of Gidan Makaranta village.
Investigations revealed that the same group had kidnapped her husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024 and collected ransom for his release.
Items recovered from the Awe operation included: Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and One live round of ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the state.
