2Baba’s Legacy Remains Unshaken Amid Controversies, Says Management

Despite a swirl of relationship controversies trailing him since the start of the year, Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, remains firmly rooted in his legacy, according to his management.

In a statement to Saturday Beats, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, Head of Legal and Communication at A Guy Entertainment, dismissed concerns that the public drama could tarnish the veteran singer’s reputation.

“The truth is, controversy sells faster than music in today’s digital climate. But 2Baba’s legacy is untouchable,” she said.

“He is widely regarded as the greatest of all time in African music, and Billboard’s recognition of ‘African Queen’ as the number one afrobeats song of all time only underlines that fact.”

Ebubedike-Igbokwe emphasized that 2Baba’s influence transcends fleeting headlines, noting that his catalogue and cultural impact continue to shape the global rise of afrobeats.

“Rather than compete with younger acts, our strategy is to showcase his unmatched depth, storytelling, and stagecraft,” she explained.

“There’s a place for both the new wave and the legends, and we’re actively creating platforms where 2Baba’s voice remains indispensable.”

She likened his enduring relevance to that of musical greats such as Fela Kuti and Christy Essien-Igbokwe, asserting that his music remains a source of inspiration for younger artists.

“He creates conscious and meaningful music, and very few of the new generation can match his style,” she added.

On 2Baba’s silence amid the controversies, Ebubedike-Igbokwe said it was a deliberate choice rooted in dignity.

“Social media thrives on drama, but history thrives on substance. 2Baba is already etched in history as the emotional voice of a generation,” she said.

“Silence is sometimes the best form of respect – for truth, for family, and for fans. He has chosen grace over noise.”

She also confirmed that a formal sit-down is being planned, where the singer will address key matters “on his own terms,” promising that when he speaks, it will be with “honesty and humility.”

Addressing speculation around his recent soundtrack “Save Me” for the Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, Ebubedike-Igbokwe dismissed claims of lukewarm reception.

“The soundtrack was very well received by fans, and the feedback online has been nothing short of positive.”

“Many described it as one of his most personal and soul-stirring works in recent years,” she said.

Looking ahead, 2Baba’s team revealed that a new album, docu-series, and tour are in development, promising fans a fresh yet authentic experience that reaffirms his place as a cultural cornerstone in African music.
