Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially launched her latest Guinness World Record attempt, this time aiming to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice using an astonishing 250 bags of rice.
The event kicked off on Friday at Eko Hotels in Lagos, drawing a massive crowd of fans, food lovers, and cultural enthusiasts.
Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after setting the record for the longest individual cooking marathon, began the jollof cookathon with a heartfelt moment of prayer alongside her mother.
The emotional scene resonated with spectators, many of whom praised her mother’s unwavering support throughout Hilda’s culinary journey.
“This pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself,” Baci wrote on social media ahead of the event.
“In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.”
Originally scheduled to take place at Muri Okunola Park, the event was relocated to Eko Hotel due to overwhelming public interest.
Organizers reported that over 20,000 people had registered to attend, prompting the move to a larger and more secure venue.
The record attempt is part of the World Jollof Festival, a celebration of West African cuisine featuring live music, cultural showcases, and food exhibitions.
