Nigerian Army troops under Operation Hadin Kai, backed by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), successfully thwarted a coordinated assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Thursday night in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area.
The attack began around 11:00 p.m. and triggered a fierce firefight that lasted until about 2:00 a.m. Ground forces held their positions, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents. As the terrorists attempted to retreat, NAF aircraft launched precision airstrikes, neutralizing several more fighters.
Military sources confirmed that at least seven terrorists were killed during the ground battle. Clearance operations are ongoing in the areas targeted by the airstrikes to assess the full extent of ISWAP’s losses.
