May Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has shared a rare glimpse into the early days of their relationship.
Speaking on a recent lifestyle podcast, May recounted how she first met Yul during her university years. Their paths crossed not at a glamorous event or industry gathering, but at a General Certificate Examination (GCE) centre – a setting that reflected her deep focus on academics.
“Way back in school when I went to the East for my university, I’m a bookworm. It’s always been about books for me,” she said.
“We didn’t meet at a party or any glamorous settings, we met at a GCE centre.”
At the time, May had just relocated from Lagos to Enugu to begin her studies at Enugu State University.
Yul, meanwhile, was a student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). Their meeting, she explained, was simple and unplanned, a quiet moment that would eventually lead to years of shared history.
Looking back on that chapter of her life, May described herself as an academically driven young woman, more interested in her books than in social scenes. Her recollection paints a picture of two young students navigating their futures, unaware of the public lives they would one day lead.
