The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intensified their collaboration to accelerate the rollout of the National Single Window (NSW) project – a transformative initiative aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s trade facilitation processes.
At a high-level meeting held at the NCS Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, senior officials from both agencies reviewed progress on the NSW and agreed on practical steps to fast-track system integration ahead of its scheduled launch in the first quarter of 2026.
The NSW, introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2024, is a centralized digital platform designed to automate and unify trade-related transactions across government agencies. It is expected to simplify documentation, reduce clearance times, enhance transparency, and lower operational costs for businesses.
Among those present at the meeting were the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR); Executive Chairman of the FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji; and Director of the National Single Window Project, Mr. Tola Fakolade, alongside other senior officials.
Welcoming the FIRS delegation, Comptroller-General Adeniyi highlighted the strategic importance of the NSW in modernizing Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.
“We are here to exchange ideas and have open discussions that will help our preparations for the National Single Window,” he said. “The goal is to integrate advanced technology into clearance and compliance processes to foster efficiency and reduce bottlenecks in the movement of goods.”
Echoing Adeniyi’s remarks, FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji described the collaboration as both timely and critical to meeting the project’s ambitious deadlines. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency synergy in delivering a seamless and transparent trade environment.
The NSW is poised to significantly enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade, improve revenue collection, and promote operational harmony among agencies involved in import and export activities.
