Nigerian music star Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, has called for disciplinary action against the airport staff who filmed and circulated a viral video showing passenger Comfort Emmanson being forcefully removed from an aircraft at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The video, which captured Emmanson in a state of indecent exposure during the incident, has sparked outrage online.
While much of the public discourse has focused on Emmanson’s alleged unruly behavior, Simi raised serious concerns about privacy violations and the professionalism of those who recorded and shared the footage.
“So let’s say the lady is actually mad and did too much. Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane. Recorded her being exposed like that and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it out,” Simi wrote on her social media platforms.
The singer, who is married to fellow artist Adekunle Gold, questioned the motive behind sharing such a sensitive video in its raw form and demanded accountability for those responsible.
“I personally want to know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable because aunty will face the law. But voluntarily posting her half naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too,” she added.
Simi emphasized that all parties involved in the incident should be held accountable, not just the passenger. She argued that the viral video highlighted a troubling lapse in ethical standards and a disregard for personal dignity.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 10, when Emmanson allegedly refused to turn off her phone before takeoff on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, violating aviation protocols.
According to Ibom Air’s official statement, her refusal escalated into a confrontation upon arrival, during which she allegedly attacked airline staff and was handed over to the Nigerian Police Force.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed that the video, recorded by someone at the scene, showed Emmanson being physically removed from the aircraft, during which she was exposed.
As public debate continues, Simi’s comments have added a new dimension to the conversation – one focused on ethics, privacy, and the responsibilities of those entrusted with public safety.
