Manchester United continued their impressive pre-season form with a commanding 4–1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series tournament held at Soldier Field, Chicago, on Wednesday night.
Goals from Rasmus Højlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo, and teenage sensation Ethan Williams sealed a second consecutive win for Ruben Amorim’s side, following their 2–1 triumph over West Ham on Saturday.
Despite the rainy and windswept conditions, United dominated from the outset. Højlund opened the scoring just eight minutes in, expertly heading home a pinpoint cross from Dorgu. The Danish duo combined again in the 25th minute, with Dorgu latching onto a clever lofted free-kick from Mason Mount, powering into the box and slotting past Djordje Petrovic to double the lead.
Diallo added a third in the 53rd minute, bundling the ball over the line before Amorim made nine substitutions with 20 minutes remaining. One of those changes, Ethan Williams, made an immediate impact-curling a low shot into the bottom corner just two minutes after coming on to make it 4–0.
The only blemish on United’s performance came in the 88th minute when Matthijs de Ligt inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
West Ham Edge Everton in Second Chicago Fixture
In the day’s other Premier League Summer Series clash, West Ham United came from behind to defeat Everton 2–1. Idrissa Gueye gave Everton an early lead in the 17th minute, but West Ham responded through Lucas Paquetá just before halftime. Niclas Füllkrug sealed the win with a composed finish in the 64th minute.
Everton manager David Moyes, facing his former club, expressed concern over his squad’s readiness:
“I’m not overly concerned because I don’t have the players which I need and what I want. We knew before we came [to the US] we were going to be really up against it.”
“At the moment we’re not ready to perform well enough in this tournament, and we’re not ready to start the Premier League season.”
Everton’s defeat follows a 3–0 loss to Bournemouth earlier in the tournament, marking a disappointing pre-season run.
