Six countries have officially booked their places in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The qualified teams are Uganda, Algeria, Morocco, Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania, each advancing from their respective groups following a series of dramatic fixtures.
In Group C, Uganda clinched top spot after a thrilling 3-3 draw against South Africa at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. The Cranes finished with seven points from four matches, securing their first-ever CHAN knockout berth.
Algeria joined them as runners-up in the group, earning six points after a tense goalless draw against Niger. Despite South Africa also finishing on six points, Algeria edged them out on goal difference, eliminating Bafana Bafana from the tournament.
Guinea and Niger ended their campaigns in fourth and fifth positions respectively, with four and two points.
Elsewhere, Morocco, Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania had earlier sealed their quarter-final spots after topping their groups in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. Kenya’s Harambee Stars impressed with an unbeaten run, while Morocco and Madagascar showcased attacking flair and defensive discipline throughout the group stage.
The quarter-finals are set to begin later this week, with matchups expected to be announced following the conclusion of Group D fixtures.
