Real Madrid kicked off their La Liga campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, marking a winning start for new head coach Xabi Alonso.
Kylian Mbappé, donning the iconic number 10 jersey for the first time, converted a penalty six minutes into the second half after being fouled by Juan Cruz. The goal proved decisive, extending Madrid’s unbeaten run in opening league fixtures to 17 consecutive seasons.
The match also saw several debuts, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined from Liverpool in the summer, and teenage winger Franco Mastantuono, introduced late in the game. Dean Huijsen and Álvaro Carreras were also handed starts.
Madrid were without midfield star Jude Bellingham, sidelined until October following shoulder surgery. Despite his absence, the hosts controlled much of the game, though Osasuna’s goalkeeper Sergio Herrera kept them at bay with key saves from Huijsen and Eder Militão.
Osasuna’s resistance crumbled in stoppage time when Abel Bretones received a red card, ending any hopes of a late equalizer.
