Award-winning Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has shared a deeply personal and emotional account of a life-threatening health scare she experienced in June while in the United Kingdom. The actress, who was accompanied by her husband, singer Banky W, and their two sons, revealed that she underwent an unplanned emergency surgery that could have cost her life.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Adesua described the ordeal as “horrific,” noting that the surgery itself was “ironically the least dramatic part” of what she went through.
“I could have lost my life in June,” she wrote. “What I went through was horrific and ended with an unplanned surgery. Strangely, the surgery itself was the least dramatic part of it all.”
The incident occurred while the actress was in the UK for two speaking engagements. She explained that a series of perfectly timed events (what she called divine intervention) ultimately saved her life.
“If even one single detail had been different, I wouldn’t be here today. When I think about it, I shudder,” she said.
Adesua, known for her roles in The Wedding Party, Sugar Rush, and Gangs of Lagos, said the experience profoundly deepened her faith and transformed her outlook on life.
“There’s nothing anyone can tell me—God is real,” she declared. “Like a map, I can literally look back over that day and trace how His hands were all over that situation.”
She urged her followers to live with more compassion and gratitude, emphasizing the fragility of life and the importance of kindness.
“Let’s choose to be softer, kinder, gentler, forgiving, patient, loving, and peaceful. I’ll never take another day for granted, neither should you.”
