Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has stirred controversy online after questioning whether Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winners actually receive their prize money.
His remarks, shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, suggest that many past winners of the reality show appear financially worse off after their time in the spotlight.
“Do they really give BBNaija winners the prize money?” Adeyanju wrote.
“The reason I am asking is because many of them end up looking extremely broke thereafter.”
The post came just a day after Imisi Ayanwale was crowned the winner of BBNaija Season 10, walking away with a grand prize of N150 million.
Adeyanju’s timing sparked immediate reactions from fans and followers, many of whom challenged him to name specific winners who had allegedly become poorer. He did not respond to those calls.
The conversation also revived past concerns raised by former winner Phyna, who won the seventh edition of the show in 2022.
Phyna has publicly accused the show’s organisers of failing to deliver certain promised prizes, including cash and endorsements.
Adeyanju’s comments have reignited debate around transparency and accountability in reality TV prize disbursements, with some fans defending the show’s legacy and others calling for greater clarity from organisers.
