Celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has reiterated her backing for Labour Party presidential hopeful Peter Obi, describing her support as deeply rooted in her patriotism.
Speaking on Amazing Africans, Adichie expressed admiration for Obi’s integrity, humility, and dedication to public service. She noted that his ambition stems from care – not ego.
“He wants to be president because he cares about Nigeria, not because he needs to be,” Adichie said. “That distinction matters.”
She applauded Obi’s leadership style, highlighting his sense of accountability and consistency in values over the years.
“Peter Obi is still the same person I knew 15 years ago – genuine, consistent, and curious.”
Although Obi has pledged to serve only a single term if elected in 2027, Adichie remained cautious about predicting political outcomes.
Her support, visible since the 2023 general election, included public endorsements and a heartfelt birthday tribute in 2022 where she called him “my big bro” and praised his vision for a better Nigeria.
