Disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is making a last-ditch effort to change his prison placement after being sentenced in October.
He is requesting a federal judge to suggest that he be moved from the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn to a lower-security facility in New Jersey, claiming this transition would aid in his rehabilitation and strengthen his family connections.
Combs, who is 55 years old, has been held in the Special Housing Unit at MDC since his July conviction on two counts of transportation for prostitution under the Mann Act.
In a recent letter, his legal team appealed to Judge Arun Subramanian to “strongly recommend” that the Bureau of Prisons transfer him to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, arguing that the programs available there would better meet his needs.
Combs was sentenced on October 3, 2025, to a prison term of 50 months, along with a fine of $500,000 and five years of supervised release.
Although prosecutors aimed for a sentence exceeding 11 years, the judge expressed concerns about fairness, considering that Combs had already spent a considerable amount of time in custody. This pretrial detention, around 13 months, will be credited toward his overall sentence.
Despite being acquitted of more severe charges like sex trafficking and racketeering, the conviction on two counts of prostitution signifies a significant decline for one of hip-hop’s most prominent figures.
What Could Happen Next?
Judge Subramanian might opt to support a recommendation for Fort Dix, but if he does, it will not be binding. The Bureau of Prisons will still assess Combs’s request on its own.
The judge’s ruling, the BOP’s reply, and whether Combs is admitted into RDAP will all be closely monitored.
This strategy employed by Diddy’s legal team could establish a precedent for how high-profile defendants advocate for more lenient incarceration conditions, particularly when issues of rehabilitation and personal growth are involved.
