The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended four individuals – including two sisters – for orchestrating a fake kidnapping to extort ₦5 million from their own father.
According to police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the scheme unfolded after Mr. Innocent of Jikwoyi Phase II reported his 16-year-old daughter, Lead Way Innocent, missing on July 18, 2025. He later received a ransom demand from an anonymous caller.
Investigators traced the phone number to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II, where Lead Way was found comfortably staying with Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of co-conspirator Mr. Mayowa Adedeji. The scene showed no signs of distress.
Further inquiries revealed that Lead Way’s elder sister, Joy Innocent, conspired with her boyfriend Mayowa – who is legally married to Tina – to fake the abduction.
Police confirmed Lead Way’s active participation in the plot, staying with the suspects while her parents endured emotional turmoil.
FCT Commissioner of Police CP Ajao Adewale condemned the act as a deep familial betrayal, urging parents to foster better communication and monitor their children’s wellbeing.
All suspects have confessed and will face prosecution once investigations conclude.
The police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
