According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. and involved a grey Toyota Highlander, registration number ABJ 206 EC, driven by one Emeka Ehekweme, who was accompanied by his wife.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple was accosted near Berger Junction in Utako by three unidentified men who forcefully entered their vehicle.

In the ensuing struggle for control of the steering wheel, the SUV veered off course, collided with a parked Mazda vehicle, and somersaulted into a bridge pillar.

Ehekweme, his wife, and two of the assailants were pronounced dead on arrival at the National Hospital, while the third suspect survived and is currently receiving medical treatment under police watch.

The driver of the parked Mazda, identified as Suleman Mohammed, escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The FCT Police Command regretfully wishes to confirm a fatal motor vehicle accident… The Command commiserates with the families of the deceased and assures the public of a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts of the matter,” SP Adeh stated.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the activities of roadside touts and criminal elements operating around major junctions in the capital.

Police authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to identify the suspects and prevent similar occurrences.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
