Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Ayra Starr have officially submitted entries for consideration, representing two distinct generations of African music talent seeking international acclaim.

Burna Boy, already a Grammy winner and a consistent presence on the global stage, has submitted his latest album No Sign of Weakness in two major categories: Album of the Year and Best Global Album. Known for blending Afro-fusion with socially conscious lyrics, the artist also entered his single Love for Best African Music Performance.

In addition, his collaboration with French singer Joé Dwèt Filé, Kampé III, was submitted for Best Global Music Performance – a category that received over 500 entries this year, making it one of the most competitive.

Meanwhile, Ayra Starr, the fast-rising Mavin Records signee, is making her Grammy debut with bold submissions that reflect her growing influence.

Her hit single Hot Body has been entered for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, placing her alongside global heavyweights – including her collaborator Wizkid.

She also submitted Gimme Dat, a duet with Wizkid, for Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video, showcasing her versatility as both a vocalist and visual artist.

The entries from Burna Boy and Ayra Starr sheds light on the genre’s expanding footprint beyond Africa.

Burna Boy, usually referred to as the “African Giant,” continues to serve as a global ambassador for Afrobeats, while Ayra Starr represents a new wave of artists redefining the sound for a younger, international audience.

First-round voting for the 2026 Grammy Awards runs until October 15.

The Recording Academy continues to review thousands of submissions, and the presence of these two Nigerian artists underscores Afrobeats’ evolution,  from regional rhythm to global movement.
