Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made a startling revelation about his life trajectory, saying he might have ended up as a suicide bomber, oil thief, or even a prostitute if not for his music career.
The Afro-fusion star made the comments during a candid exchange with a fan, reflecting on the alternative paths his life could have taken had he not pursued music.
“There are many options. I could be stealing oil, I could be playing basketball, I could be a fraudster, a suicide bomber, anything including a prostitute,” Burna Boy said.
The statement, though provocative, underscores the transformative role music has played in his life. Born and raised in Port Harcourt, Burna Boy has often spoken about the challenges of his upbringing and how music became his escape and purpose.
Despite the controversy stirred by his remarks, Burna Boy continues to break records.
His recent collaboration with American rapper Gunna, titled WGFT, debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his seventh entry on the chart. This achievement makes him the African artist with the most appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 and the first to debut a song on the chart for five consecutive years, from 2021 through 2025.
The artist’s bold confession has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his honesty and others questioning the implications of his words.
