The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has rejected the results of the August 16, 2025 bye-elections held in Basawa, Zaria Kewaye, and Chikun/Kajuru constituencies, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of widespread electoral malpractice.
In a statement signed by State Chairman Sir Edward Percy Masha, the PDP alleged that the APC employed “gestapo and commando tactics,” including the abduction of its candidate and campaign team in Chikun/Kajuru, seizure of campaign funds, and open vote buying.
Despite the PDP’s claims, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed APC victories across all three constituencies. In Chikun/Kajuru, APC’s Felix Bagudu secured 34,580 votes, while the PDP trailed with 11,491. APC also won in Zaria Kewaye and Basawa, marking its first sweep of these traditionally opposition strongholds.
The PDP expressed gratitude to its supporters and vowed to consult with stakeholders and legal experts to determine its next steps. It also criticized the low voter turnout, blaming it on public disillusionment and the state government’s failure to conduct local elections since 2024.
The party urged its members to remain resilient, promising internal reforms to restore democratic values and fairness in Kaduna politics.
