Manchester United Reach Loan Agreement for Andre Onana with Trabzonspor

Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Turkish club Trabzonspor over a loan move for goalkeeper Andre Onana, signaling a potential end to the Cameroonian’s turbulent spell at Old Trafford.

The deal, confirmed by multiple sources including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, hinges solely on Onana’s approval.

“Club to club verbal agreement in place and final decision now up to Onana,” Romano posted on X.

“It’s only up to the goalkeeper.”

Onana, 29, has endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 season, making just one appearance in United’s shock Carabao Cup second-round defeat to Grimsby Town.

Manager Ruben Amorim has consistently opted for Turkish international Altay Bayindir in Premier League fixtures, while the club further reinforced its goalkeeping options with the £18 million acquisition of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

The former Inter Milan shot-stopper joined United in 2023 in a high-profile move but has struggled to replicate his previous form, drawing criticism for high-profile errors and inconsistency. His contract runs until 2028, but Amorim’s recent selections suggest a shift in direction, with Onana now relegated to third-choice status.

If the move materializes, Trabzonspor would gain a seasoned international goalkeeper as they aim to challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title.

The transfer window in Turkey remains open until September 12, giving both parties time to finalize the arrangement.
