Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a passionate appeal to Nigerians to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the PVC as the most powerful tool for defeating electoral fraud and bad governance.
In a statement titled “PVC is the Bridge to a New Nigeria”, Obi emphasized that the voter’s card is “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor”. He urged citizens to get organized and make election rigging difficult by actively participating in the electoral process.
“The future of our dear nation is in your hands. The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card,” Obi said.
He warned against vote selling, stating that politicians who buy votes are not offering charity but are “investing in corruption” to gain access to public funds for looting. Obi likened such individuals to “criminals in disguise,” no better than armed robbers or kidnappers.
Obi also cautioned voters against mortgaging their future for short-term gains:
“To those who sell their votes, you are not just selling an election; you are selling the very opportunities that would have lifted you and your family out of poverty,” he said.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to vote for leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion, and to prove that power belongs to the people – not corrupt politicians who trade the nation’s future for selfish gain.
