Peterborough Sports FC have parted ways with joint managers Michael Gash and Luke Steele following a dismal start to the National League North season.
The club confirmed the decision in an official statement on Wednesday morning, expressing gratitude for the duo’s professionalism and dedication.
The managerial shake-up comes after Sports suffered a 3–1 defeat to lower-tier Wellingborough Town in the Northants Senior Cup, a match both Gash and Steele oversaw despite the decision reportedly being made prior to kickoff.
The club is now strongly linked with former Premier League manager Phil Brown, who previously led Hull City and most recently managed Kidderminster Harriers. Brown is being considered to take over the reins at Lincoln Road, now known as PIMS Park.
Gash and Steele had only signed new two-year contracts in August after guiding Sports to a record points tally and their highest-ever finish in the National League North.
Their appointment in February 2023 followed the departure of club legend Jimmy Dean, who led Sports through multiple promotions and now manages Spalding United.
Despite their recent success, the team currently sits bottom of the table with just one win and four points from eight games, prompting the club to act swiftly in hopes of salvaging the season.
Gash, who also holds a playing contract, is sidelined with injury until Christmas. The club has promised a further statement regarding the next managerial appointment.
