President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with national awards and a cash reward of $100,000 per player.
This developement follows their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
The recognition ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, also saw the team’s technical crew awarded $50,000 each for their contributions to Nigeria’s fourth consecutive title win.
Addressing the team, President Tinubu commended their discipline, teamwork, and unwavering dedication, describing them as role models and a source of national pride.
He said their victory over Senegal in the final game reinforced Nigeria’s dominance in African basketball and showcased the spirit of excellence.
The President’s gesture is seen as a celebration of sporting achievement and a call to inspire youth across the country.
