Organised labour in Taraba State has declared an indefinite strike set to begin on Monday, August 11, 2025, in protest against alleged irregularities in the state’s Biometric Data Capture exercise.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) announced the decision in a joint statement signed by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman Comrade Abasu Sule.
The announcement follows a resolution reached at a meeting of the Joint State Administrative Council held on August 6.
According to the statement, the strike is a response to what labour leaders described as illegal practices by the Biometric Data Capture Committee, which they claim have negatively impacted workers across the state.
The unions also criticized the state government for failing to act on an earlier ultimatum demanding reforms.
“All workers, civil society organisations, and the general public are hereby put on notice to prepare adequately and stock their homes with necessary provisions,” the statement warned.
Labour leaders directed all affiliate unions, branches, and units within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to immediately establish strike implementation committees to ensure compliance and coordination throughout the state.
Mobilisation for the industrial action has already commenced, with further directives expected in the coming days
